Martial artist hopes to help kids unlock potential

Sensei Brian Seetge, from SideKicks Karate, draws inspiration from his own experiences with bullying as a child to empower his students and children. Recognizing the limitations of reaching only those present in his karate school, Seetge decided to contribute to a book about bully prevention titled “BULLYPROOF: Unleash the Hero Inside Your Kid.” This book, part of an Amazon best-selling series, allows him to extend his positive impact to a broader audience.

Born with a disability that required him to receive physical therapy during elementary school, Seetge found solace and empowerment in karate, which focused on improving balance and coordination. His personal transformation through martial arts motivated him to share these principles with others, especially children facing bullying.

In his anti-bullying seminars, Seetge addresses four crucial topics:

  1. Behavior and assertiveness: Teaching children how to stand tall and be assertive.
  2. Awareness and interaction: Emphasizing the importance of being aware and interacting positively with others.
  3. Family and communication: Encouraging the formation of a supportive team with friends and family, fostering open communication between parents, loved ones, and teachers.
  4. Discovering strengths: Helping children find something they excel at, promoting personal growth.

Seetge said he will have copies of Bullyproof available at Our Amazon page: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1532709749

Proceeds from the book, Seetge said, will be donated to the Rome Parent Teacher Group.

Seetge believes that families often avoid discussing bullying, and he aims to break this silence by educating and empowering children to handle such situations positively. While acknowledging that bullying has been prevalent for centuries, he emphasizes the need to equip children with the skills and confidence to navigate such challenges.

In his classes, Seetge distinguishes between violence and self-defense, teaching children that self-defense involves more than physical techniques. It encompasses how one carries oneself, maintains eye contact, and demonstrates self-respect and respect for others. Building confidence is a key element in preventing bullying, as confident children are less likely to be targeted.

The book “BULLYPROOF” aims to provide practical advice to parents, enabling them to understand the consequences of bullying and empower their children to stand up against it. The proceeds from the book will be donated to the Rome Parent Teacher Group, reinforcing Seetge’s commitment to supporting schools and building a community focused on education and personal development.

Seetge and his wife, Nicole, envision the book as a tool to raise awareness about the bullying problem and hope their son, Kaiden, can be featured on the front cover. Through their efforts and the book’s availability, they strive to bring the issue of bullying to the forefront of people’s minds and contribute to creating a safer and more positive environment for future generations.
