Self Defense For College Teens

Here are a few ideas to help youor new college student to stay safe!

Safety in your home/dorm:

-Walk around the outside of your house and check out if you have any weak areas that could be improved upon.

-Keep your house well lit at night.

-Use dead bolts and extra locks.

-Use the door viewer-never open the door to a stranger without checking out their credentials.

-Change your normal routine often.

-If serviceman is in your house, let him hear you call someone so that he knows someone else knows he is there.

-Secure all windows/doors etc. before you leave.

-Leave lights on a timer/radio etc.

-Don’t tell strangers your schedule.

Safety on the streets:

-Walk in well-lit areas.

-If you don’t have to carry a purse, don’t.

-Don’t display large amounts of money.

-Always be aware of your surroundings.

-Walk in the center of the sidewalk.

-Don’t jog alone, and always alternate running patterns and areas.

-Don’t be afraid to be assertive.

-If you feel awkward, go with your feelings and get out of that situation.

Safety in your vehicle:

-Keep vehicle locked at all times, even when you are driving it.

-Be cautious of any stranger approaching your vehicle.

-Carry a “send help” sign in your car at all times.

-Know where you are going before you go, so that you don’t get lost.

-Check the inside of your car before you go in.

-Have your car keys ready in your hands, before you go towards your car.

Self Defense is not always physical, being smart and taking the right precautions will always be your best defense!
